Moving from the analysis of the tragic topos of tyrant’s wretchedness, the author proposes to assign Menander, Aspis, fr. 1 Jacques to Daos, the loyal pedagogue, which in the play shows to be familiar with tragic lexicon and motifs, and argues that the fragment refers to Smicrines, the old miser, who in the Aspis reveals several resemblances with the character of a tragic tyrant.

Il contributo propone una nuova ipotesi di soluzione dell'apparente incongruenza esistente tra i due principali testimoni dell'Aspis di Menandro, il P. Bodmer XXVI (B) e il PSI 126 (F, ex Comoedia florentina): B tramanda nove versi (vv. 140-148 J.), in corrispondenza dei quali nel foglio I recto di F compare una lacuna che sembrerebbe contenere 12 versi.

This paper aims to show that in Alciphron 2, 7 it is possible to find several connections with the comic tradition, especially with Aris- tophanes and Old Comedy. This reading therefore offers an interesting opportunity to identify many levels at which Alciphron interacted with comic models, and to gain a deeper acquaintance with the various ways in which he recreated the style and lexicon of comedy.

On the basis of the analysis of Aristophanes, Clouds 53-55, Ecclesiazusae 877-883, and Plato Comicus, fr. 43 K.-A., the author proves that the word ajrgov~ may assume, in comic language, the meaning of “sexually inactive”, later attested also in Alciphron 2.7, and in Strato AP 12.240.
