Abstract

The book maps out over three sections two decades of research on the relationship between literature and the social imaginary. Firstly exploring this theme through the work of Vallès focusing on his journalistic, fictional, and theatre production. Secondly centring on Mirbeau and related libertarian discourses in 19th century France. Thirdly a snapshot of contemporary French literary production exploring themes such as exclusion, rebellion, and existential nomadism.
