Abstract

The article's purpose is to prove the correctness of nobilis in recentiores compared to mobilis in potiores in Prop. 4,10,42 and to offer evidence about Rothstein's evectis rotis. The comparison with a passage from Caesar's De bello Gallico (4,33) can explain the source of mobilis, but the heroic stature given to Virdomarus, as to the other enemies in Prop. 4,10, induces to prefer nobilis evectis fundere gaesa rotis in the light of an epic scheme deepened in relation to the progressive expansion of Roman power.
