Abstract

In late antiquity the suburb is the privileged space where, between 4th and 6th century, martyr worship states and spread. The bishop is undoubtedly the main protagonist of this phenomenon as the epigraphic documentation attests, preserving the memory of construction and monumentalization activities promoted on his own initiative as a tangible sign of the leadership role in the process of consolidation and institutionalization of worships.
