Abstract

This volume aims to be an introduction to some of the main themes in the origin of our tradition of political thought and an analysis of the essencial aspects of one of the most important political dialogues of Plato. Poltical and philosophical topics are discussed in the implicit order of presentation in the platonic 'Republic': power as a pastoral activity; the critical view of statesmen discourses; the ambiguity of any science having as object the 'polis'; the different forms of community as a principle of political understanding; the philosopher's paradox, when he must justify himself to non philosophers, beeing accused of empiety or inutility to the city.
