Abstract

Angelo Poliziano, author of a large Commentary on the Fasti as well as on the Ovidian Sappho's epistle to Phaon, wrote also a small poem in twenty couplets, entitled De Ovidii exilio et morte. This poem represented the official inaugural lecture for his (probably) last public course of lessons in 1493, the year before his death. This research aims to provide a philological, linguistic and stylistic examination of this less known work, which proves to be very interesting also because of the author's use of expressions and phrases referable to Ovid himself.
