Abstract

The essay analyzes the presence of the cult and iconography of saint James of Compostella in Apulia, between the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, with particular reference to the major pilgrimage routes and the Apulian port cities. Documents, popular traditions, churches, hospitality structures, iconography demonstrate the strong presence of the cult in Apulia, also in relation to the pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The essay examines in particular the cities of the apulian coast, from Siponto to Brindisi.
