Disability and integrations quality
Abstract
The most advanced scientific research tends to assert that the link between deficit and handicap should be read not within a causal-linear process concerning only the individual, but rather inside a systemic paradigm which involves subjective and environmental variables. This new attention paid to disability situations requires new forms of connection between different fields of knowledge and new collaboration processes among different professional figures. Undoubtedly, this new integration philosophy which is deeply rooted in a new way to conceive man as a unique entity can be clearly perceived, even if, on the other hand, this view does not find a counterpart in an adequate commitment to build up an authentic and effective integration culture, founded on the acknowledgement of the human, civil and social rights of the disabled person. The notion of “person” is multiform and plural: the constitutive features are singularity, rationality interpreted as a direction of meaning and openness to a life project and an attitude to build relationships. The identity, the difference and the historicity of the person are combined with the relationships and the participation in the social life.
