Abstract

His awareness of classical sources let the author make a learned contamination between more than one translations as a guarantee of a complex plot and well-contructed characters. In particular, the rereading of Virgilian "Anna soror" in Selene: In Varrone, Anna, instead of Dido, was the protagonist of the tragic romance with Aeneas, and it is this tradition that gives to Metastasio the possibility of playing on a double level. In this way Metastasio comes off to create a play that meets the spectators tastes.
