Abstract

A new edition, after that of Felix Jacoby of 1927, of the five testimonies and nineteen surviving fragments of Chares of Mytilene. The extensive commentary allows, on the one hand, to outline the figure and personality of the historian, known only for having held in the court of Alexander, during the expedition in Asia, the office of chamberlain, and the other to reconstruct the 'king's image seen on the battlefield and in the simplicity of daily life by his faithful servant
