Abstract

TEATRO UMBERTO GIORDANO. Drawings and memory The essay aims at investigating the history of the teatro di pianta built in Foggia at the beginning of the 19th century. The theatre is still a cultural milestone for the citizens of Foggia, who have always been extremely keen on welcoming artistic events. The paper follows the history of the project conceived by Luigi Oberty and supervised by architect Leopoldo Vaccaro, by analysing the choices that led to the geometrical shape of the stalls and the whole stage, including the orchestra pit, the forestage, the main stage, the stage props and mechanical equipment. It bases on a thorough selection of the bibliographic and archive material and on accurate technical reference and feedback in situ, together with a metric survey and the graphical analysis of the structure of the building.
