Abstract

It is no easy task to deal exhaustively in a brief essay with such a vast and complex subject: the Cairene house and its tectonics, that is to say the construction elements and its construction syntax. This is firstly because the construction shapes cannot be separated from the actual shape of the house, as it has developed over the centuries; secondly, because the technical knowledge and materials used always underlie a construction concept of space which, as it is determined by climatic, cultural and social requirements, must relate back to an original construction principle - as the house does to an original principle of its shape
