Abstract

After the Persian Wars, the main Athenian building programmes are promoted by Themistokles and Kimon. The until now deserted Kimonian programme was rediscovered thanks to a detailed analysis of the monuments (civil and sacred) and literary testimonia. The so called Kimonian phase was characterized by a political attitude: the main stream of theme in rebuilding the polis was the memory of Persian attack to the city and the victory of the Greeks under the leadership of Athens. Athens was considered the capital of the Delian League and also a community regarding the Spartan polis as a model.
