Reflexos do processo de restandardização do PB no falado fílmico brasileiro contemporâneo

Abstract

After a crisis that took place around 199 0, Brazilian cinema has experienced a phase of rebirth. The movies belonging to this new period are characterized by a relevant presence of two kinds of locations: favelas (Brazilian suburbs) and sertão (semi-arid areas of the Northeast of Brazil). This is a possible explanation for the gradual and continuous insertion of substandard and/or non-standard phrases and language varieties in contemporary Brazilian movie dialogues. The current paper discusses the use, in terms of quantity and quality, of non-standard expressions in movies with urban locations. The use of such expressions will be discussed with reference to a deep process of linguistic re-standardization of Brazilian Portuguese (BP). The analysis will take into account recent Brazilian filmography and will concentrate both on social differences and linguistic uses of BP.
