Abstract

After some decades of systematic research into the peopling of southern Apulia in pre-Roman age, this paper aims at reflecting on the topology of sacred spaces. Cultic contexts are examined with regard to the following phases : the Iron Age, the Archaic and Hellenistic ages. The analysis is carried out looking at the location of the places of cult within or outside the settlements, always considering their connection to the inhabited areas. The data allows to define a phenomenology of Messapian sacred landscapes. Some remarks upon cultic practices and offerings system are also made.
