Abstract

The anonymous treatise De natura accidentis, written by a German Dominican in the 14th century, is both a summary and a reworking of Dietrich of Freiberg's De accidentibus. A textual and doctrinal comparison of the two texts makes it possible to revise the first assessments of the treatise: rather that a witness to german antithomism, it is a reworking, in a Thomistic perspective, of themes and motifs dealt with by Dietrich of Freiberg. Not only does it testify to the doctrinal authority acquired by Dietrich within the Dominican order, but it is also an attemp at neutralising his most radical tenets.
