L’auctoritas ovidiana in CB 105
Abstract
CB 105 reveals obvious signs of imitation of Ovid, explicitly mentioned in the whole poem. Moreover, not only most of Ovid's quotes come from a single section of the Ars Amatoria, but also it seems they haven't been found anywhere else in medieval Latin literature. This suggests that the author of CB 105 read the Ars Amatoria with particular attention and tried to make the reader able to identify Ovid's context. Furthermore, and certainly conditioned by the precepts of love, the sryle of CB 105 might be detected as having a similar playful, ironic tone as that already perceived in Ovid, who defined his work as a game in the closing stanza of the third book of the Ars Amatoria: /IISUS habet finem (v. 809).
