Abstract

Hrotswitha’s theater obtains the characteristics of an instrument of redenption exalting sacred love and faith in God, in whose name it courageously faces martyrdom. At the same time, it meticulously describes very sensual and particularly rough love scenes, the worst legacy of a pagan world, from which the Saxon poet intends to distance herself.
