Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the features of the French language spoken in Senegal. In particular, the analysis focuses on the phenomenon of interference, which occurs when the language of the colonizer (the official language) is influenced by the African languages spoken in Senegal (national languages). Data are drawn from an anthology of 21 tales and 5 myths published in 2007 and transcribed from oral tradition. For this reason, attention will also be paid to the features of orality. The results of the analysis show that both these phenomena – interference and orality – can be identified in onomatopoeia and interjection, proverbs, opening and closing formulas and tense system.
