A participatory process to build and improve the competence profile of teachers using e-portfolio. A case study in an Higher Education Network (Latin America)

Abstract

Improving teaching evaluation as a process of self- group- external- assessment is a key to develop quality giving an answer to increasing pressure to produce evidence of the quality. We present the case study carried out by a confederation of thirteen Higher Education Institution in Latin America. To achieve the goal of new model of teaching and learning based on “learning process” the Institutions have defined a new profile of their university teachers and an evaluation model based on authentic evaluation with evidences. This action-research underlines three elements: the first refers to the teacher profile as the "product" of a Community of Thought; the second refers to "participatory process" as a working model that allowed the co-construction of the profile with the teachers; the third presents the tools and technologies used in integrated way (Virtual Collaborative Learning Environment, Human Resource Management, e-portfolio).
