Receiver circuitry with variable gain amplifier

Abstract

The circuit has amplifiers (204, 206, 208) connected in series, where each amplifier provides an amplified signal. Comparators (210, 212, 214) are respectively connected to outputs of the amplifiers, where each comparator has an input receiving the amplified signal. Signal identifiers (216, 218, 220) are respectively connected to outputs of the comparators and determine if the comparator outputs validly represent data signals (D1-D3). A signal selection block (222) selects a better signal, among the data signals, provoking from the comparators relative to validity of the comparator outputs. An independent claim is also included for a method for receiving a data signal.
