Abstract

A straight threaded rod (11) has three reference elements (17, 18, 19) spaced apart from each other. A shoulder (15, 16) and a knob (21) having a fourth reference element (23) are screwed onto the rod. A spring (14) is mounted on the rod (11) between the knob (21) and the shoulder (15, 16). The rod (11) is inserted through two axially aligned holes (L, M) in two abutting pieces (A, B), with the shoulder (15, 16) bearing on a first surface (G) of one (B) of the two pieces. By adjusting the position of the shoulder (15, 16) and the knob (21) along the rod (11) it is possible to apply a calibrated clamping force to a pair of abutting pieces (A, B), regardless of the thickness of the pieces.
